Responsibilities and Impact:
Volunteers working in Ghanaian orphanages generally show support by teaching English to children either in the orphanage or in a local school. You are also welcome to teach other subjects like math and science,and you will also provide an extra pairs of hands to help with the day-to-day running of the project. Every day as a volunteer you will assist with cleaning, cooking and serving food to the children.
Your responsibilities will vary depending on the needs of the orphanage, other activities include organizing physical education, sport sessions and creative extracurricular activities, assisting with child counselling, and administrative work if the children are away for school during the day.
With your love and attention, the children will thrive and be motivated and inspired. Your efforts will give them hope for a brighter future and help them reach their full potential. You are sure to feel rewarded as their faces light up each morning when they see you.
Skills and Qualifications:
Volunteers joining Ghanavolunteer orphanage program do not need any specific qualifications or experience. However, you need to be over 18 and have a deep love and passion for children and orphans, and a desire to contribute to making a difference in their lives.
Those with a background in child psychology or who have similar work experience with at risk children in the past will be at an advantage for helping these children. People who have experience teaching English will also be able to provide great additional benefit.

- First Day: Your in-country coordinator will introduce you to the staff and children in the Ghana orphanage you will be calling home for the duration of your stay. You will be given information about the project, how you can help and general housekeeping information to make your stay is enjoyable and safe.
- Weekdays: This is an example of your typical work week with weekends free for leisure activities:
- 7:00 AM: Get up bright and early to get yourself ready for a busy day helping the children.
- 7:30 AM: Eat breakfast, travel to the project and start making difference.
- 8:00 AM: Involve in many activities of orphanage, help ensure the children have got to school in time and assist the children with their academic activities.
- 8:30 AM to 12:00PM: Assist teachers and children in the classroom. Or stay in the orphanage helping small kids
- 12:00 to 1:00 PM: Enjoy lunch break
- 01:00 to 03:00 PM: Continue helping in the classroom or in orphanage .

Accommodation and Meal
You will be housed safely with a trusted and loving host family near your Ghana orphanage volunteer project. You will share your comfortable accommodation with like-minded volunteers and every day your host family will be provide you with three authentic and homemade meals.
Free Time and Weekends:
Ghana is a diverse country with a rich history. You will get every weekend to explore the region and take part in tours, andnature-lovers can visit lush forests, swim on the shores of stunning sand beaches and watch elephants roaming the savannah. For people who prefer city dwelling visit local markets, visit museums and learn about the historical slave trading in the region.
Safety and in Country Support

Arrival and Departure
You should fly into Kotoka International Airport, Accra for your orphanage volunteer project in Ghana. There you will be met by our local representative who will come to pick you up from the airport. To ensure this process runs smoothly please check that you have sent us your correct flight details. We suggest that you arrive one day prior to your program start date. You will need to consult with our country coordinator before heading to Ghana.
Airport pick up and Drop
IFRE organizes airport pick-ups services for volunteers. After your arrival in the Kotoka International Airport, our representative will pick you up and transfer you to your respective placement. Please contact us to arrange a new pick up schedule if you miss your flight or your flight is delayed. You will need to arrange your own airport drop off service.
It is compulsory for all our volunteers to obtain a tourist visa for their time with a Ghana orphanage volunteer project. You can purchase antourist visa for a 14-30 day stay in Kotoka International Airport on arrival. Please visit for more details about the visa.
The CDC recommends vaccines for Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR), diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, varicella (chickenpox), polio, Yellow fever, Hepatitis A, Malaria, Typhoid, Hepatitis B, Meningitis (Meningococcal disease), and Rabies forvolunteers in Ghana.
