Internship programs in Argentina

Poverty prevails throughout much of Argentina. Many parents are unable to sufficiently provide for their children. Children grow up without an adequate nutrition, education, companionship, guidance and personal attention. In association with a number of Argentinean non-profit organizations, municipalities and schools, IFRE places interns in numerous "buddy roles" in an attempt to provide love, friendship, support and care for underprivileged children.

When you join internship Argentina Children and Youth Outreach project, you will participate in the Disadvantaged Children/At-Risk Children Program, you will support children educationally, emotionally and physically to give them a change to live healthy and productive lives. You will assist care centers with various tasks such as preparing meals and helping children with their homework.

You may also assist the local Argentina children and youth outreach internship staff members implementing and developing activities to enhance and promote creativity, such as artistic workshops, dancing, sports, games, computer lessons, music, etc.

Through your support, children will be off the streets and away from negative situations, which are counter-productive to their education and brighter future. While this project requires patience and dedication, you will have a unique and unforgettable experience and a positive impact on the lives of the children who need it the most.

Skills/Qualifications Needed

To participate in the children and youth outreach Argentina internship opportunity, beginner to intermediate Spanish skills are preferred. If you cannot speak more than basic Spanish, we suggest that you enroll in our Spanish language course to make your stay more rewarding, for you and for the children.

No additional qualifications are required to participate in this Argentinian internship with Disadvantaged Children/At-Risk Children Program in Argentina. However, you must have a passion and eagerness to help impoverished and disadvantaged children and to be sensitive, flexible, adaptive, patient and proactive.

An Intern's Responsibilities

During your placement in the Internship with the Disadvantaged Children/At-Risk Children in Argentina, you will work with municipalities or organizations four to five hours per day, Monday through Friday. Depending on your individual skills and interests as well as the needs of the local staff, daily activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching basic English, health, math, science or other subjects
  • Providing daily care to children
  • Helping prepare and serve food for children
  • Teaching children life skills such as gardening, painting, building, sewing, etc
  • Leading extracurricular activities such as games, sports, art, music, dancing, etc
  • Promoting fundraising activities
  • Assisting local administrations
  • Helping plan events and excursions
  • Assisting families
  • Assisting medical staff

As you participate in the Argentina disabled youth internship program you will provide disabled children and teens with friendship, attention, education, therapy, occupational training and recreational opportunities. The IFRE Argentina Disabled Youth project works with local institutions where professionals from different teaching areas work together.

You will join one of these teams and work with psychiatrists, physical education trainers and educational psychologists. Together with the team you will work on initiatives to create a safe and stimulating environment for children with special educational needs so they can learn and have fun.

At this, this project can be emotionally challenging, but it is extremely rewarding too. You will gain professional experience working alongside other professionals to change the future prospects of disabled children, providing them with the love and support they deserve.

Skills/Qualifications Needed

To participate in the Disabled Youth internship Argentina you must be 18 years old. Intermediate Spanish skills are preferred. If you cannot speak more than basic Spanish, we suggest that you enroll in our Spanish language course to make your stay more rewarding, for you and the children.

No additional qualifications are required to participate in the Internship with disabled children and teens in Argentina. However, you must be enthusiastic, compassionate towards the disabled, be sensitive, flexible, adaptive, patient and proactive.

An Interns’ Responsibilities

When you work within a disabled children and teens program as an intern in Argentina, you will work four to six hours per day, Monday through Friday, but may be asked to work some weekends if needed. Depending on your individual skills and interests as well as the needs of the local staff, daily activities involve, but are not limited to:

  • Spending time with the disabled and have fun with them
  • Organize extracurricular activities such as games, sports, art, music, dance, etc.
  • Assisting the teachers and staff with routine tasks and chores
  • Assessing the physical and mental health of the disabled
  • Reinforcing information taught in workshops or classes
  • Organizing events
  • Assisting children with rehabilitation and therapeutic activities
  • Leading educational classes or workshops
  • Supporting organizational and management tasks

Please Note: this project is not available from December 1st to March 1st and for a period of 20 days in July, but we can gladly place you in a similar project if you would like to participate in an Argentina internship during this time.

Participate in a dental program in Argentina and enjoy the perfect combination of a professional experience, an international service and an exciting opportunity to travel! IFRE is currently partnering with an informal program for college students and college graduates who wish to attend dental school in the future.

In this project, you will have the unique chance to learn from local dentists and professionals as you interact with patients and have a practical experience. If you are studying to become a dentist, this is the perfect learning experience for you. You will be assigned a mentor to make sure you have valuable and meaningful learning opportunities.

You will teach local children about oral hygiene, work directly with patients and assist dentists with a variety of dentistry aspects such as orthodontics, endodontic, periodontics, oral surgery and implants. The Argentina dental internship program is designed so you may learn in an informal program, immerse themselves into the Argentinean culture and help others while gaining unprecedented experience.

Skills/Qualifications Needed

To participate in the Argentina dental internship opportunity, you must be a college student with an obvious interest in dentistry or be a graduate who will go to dentistry school in the future. Intermediate Spanish is preferred, but not mandatory.

If your Spanish skills are poor, we suggest enrolling in our Spanish Language program so you and the patients can get the most out of this experience, you must commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week for a minimum of eight weeks. You must respect host organizations members, be caring, polite and responsible.

An Intern's Responsibilities

In IFRE's Dentistry internship Argentina, you will work with local dentists and assistants. Daily activities may include:

  • Helping with lab work
  • Preparing for procedures
  • Assisting dental professionals
  • Learning about the procedures
  • Cleaning and disinfecting procedure areas
  • Sterilizing instruments
  • Stocking materials

An Interns’ Responsibilities

During your participation in the Professional Support Internship in Argentina, you will work four to five hours per day, Monday through Friday. Depending on your individual skills and interests as well as the needs of the local staff, daily activities involve, but are not limited to:

Fees & Dates:

IFRE intern programs in Argentina start every Monday, although we allow for flexibility due to travel constraints.

Since 2003, IFRE has been the most trusted and respected volunteer and intern abroad organization in the world, and also the most affordable. We’re dedicated to providing the highest quality volunteer programs at the lowest fees, which make it possible for everyone, especially students, to intern internationally and make a positive impact in the lives of others.

We believe in 100% transparency. Rest assured; we never use middlemen. Your one-time registration fee of $299 covers our administrative costs. The low weekly program fee is paid in the host country directly to your host family and project (via country coordinator), and includes housing, food, and minor expenses. IFRE is a non-profit organization, so your program fees are tax deductible.

The Argentina internship program fee and volunteering fee is basically same. However, unlike volunteers, interns often work closely with guided supervision from a local project director, and a small weekly supervision fee ($25-50/ week) may be incurred in addition to volunteer program fees.

Internships vs. Volunteers Programs

In general, volunteer abroad programs focus on humanitarian outreach and project support. Volunteering is popular amongst people who want to share their love and passion for underprivileged children, impoverished communities, or conservation efforts in need of resources.

Internship Argentina programs focus on creating a real-world learning environment for interns and students so that they practice professional development and obtain new skills. Similar to volunteers, interns may work on a variety of projects (many times alongside volunteers) that benefits local communities, children, wildlife and similar projects. During the IFRE Argentina teaching internship programs, you will stay in a well-managed volunteer/intern house OR with carefully screened host families in Cordoba.

Our accommodations offer comfortable, communal bedrooms furnished with single beds, tidy bedding materials, fans, electricity outlets and other necessary services. Bathrooms have western style toilets with regular supply of water.

When you join internship program, you can opt for accommodations with two meals (host family), or accommodation with no meals (volunteer house).

Field Support and Supervision

Once your NGO and community development internship program begins in Argentina, our local staff members will stay in constant touch with you. We visit our interns every two to four when possible and you are always welcome to come and see us at the office. If you can, we recommend that you stop by the office once a week, especially if you are staying/working in the local area.

We will be available at the local office via email and phone your entire trip. It’s our job to make sure that you feel safe and healthy. You will usually stay in our guesthouse, which also serves as headquarters tour coordinators, to make sure you have direct contact with your coordinators.

Academic Credit

IFRE does not offer any academic credit. However, still You can earn academic credit for most internship opportunities in Argentina. The best way to receive academic credit is by pre-arranging the project with your college/university.

It is up to YOU to communicate with faculty/academic advisors regarding college credit for internship work PRIOR to applying to IFRE. Your college/university may require addiional information prior to approval and may require students to submit pre/post research or other requirements.


Free Time

During Argentina internship programs, you can do research and list something they need to explore. For the duration of your project, you will have weekends free. There are a number of things to see and do during this time off. IFRE does not arrange activities during your time off, but our local staff, members and coordinators can provide priceless assistance in making appropriate arrangements for travel throughout Argentina.

Most interns use this time to explore independently travel through the country. Argentina is one of the most beautiful countries in the world offering plenty of to have unique experiences. FAQs: Internship Argentina

Arrival and Departure

Your Argentina internship requires that you fly into Pajas Blancas International Airport. Once you arrive, an IFRE representative will be waiting to pick you up.

Please consult our country coordinator before leaving your home country, and make sure to send us your correct flight information once you have booked your travel. If there are any changes, delays, or if you miss your flight please contact us as soon as possible.

We do not offer airport drop-off service so you will need to make your own departure arrangements.

Visa

In order to participate in any of the Argentina internship opportunities, you need to secure a tourist visa . Depending on your national, a visa on arrival may be available.

Visa extension is possible by visiting department of immigration if you would like to extend your time in Argentina.

Vaccination

For travel to Argentina, the CDC recommends vaccinations against: Rabies, Hepatitis A-B, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Meningitis, Typhoid
