Volunteer in Primary School Sports Program in South Africa
Do you love sports? Would you like to teach sports to kids in Cape Town, South Africa? If your answer is ‘YES’, then don’t miss out on being a volunteer in primary school sports in South Africa’s number one tourist destination.
South Africa is highly multicultural with a rich diversity of flora and fauna. This country is a must for all nature and history lovers alike. Roam vast valleys full of vineyards and artisanal crafts or watch elephants in the savannahs. Sports enthusiasts can go on countless hikes, paddleboard when the ocean is calm, and surf when the waves swell.
Unfortunately, due to overcrowding in schools and lack of funding, physical education and sports are often one of the first things on the curriculum to be abandoned. Government-funded schools simply don’t have the budget for sports/physical education teachers, specialized sports coaches, or sports equipment. This leaves these children lacking in the vital health and social benefits that physical education in school provides.
You can help make a real difference in the lives of children in need by volunteering in primary school sports program in South Africa. By playing with the children and teaching them sports, they will not only gain the health benefits that sports provides but they will develop much-needed social skills and learn how to work in teams.
The children will bring these skills back home to use in their communities. You will not only directly change the lives of these children, but you will make school a fun place to be, and you will help them develop the skills to form tight community bonds.
If you have a passion for sports your help is needed in South African communities to help children stay active and use physical exercise to help build community ties. Contact IFRE today to find out more about how you can spend your valuable time making life-changing differences to children in need.

The majority of the schools do not have the equipment necessary to conduct a sports program, and volunteers are therefore requested to be flexible and use their imagination during this program to successfully incorporate physical activity into students’ daily regimen.
South African primary schools have the potential for 1-3 periods of physical education classes per day (approximately 1-2 hours). How you help will vary depending on the activities planned for the day, or your creativity and initiative to conduct your own physical education and health lessons with the children.
How will I be training the children while volunteering in the Primary School Sports Program?
The volunteers involved with this project will be tasked with developing and implementing a sports education curriculum. The structure and available facilities vary depending on the location, resources available, and the level of staff training. Some projects are well funded and well managed, while others lack infrastructure and resources. Most of these projects are funded through subsidies, donations and grants. It is up to you as a project volunteer to develop a physical education program around the available resources. Normally, volunteers can assist with sports such as soccer (football), netball, athletics, yoga, track and field, fitness classes, and basic team games.
