Your Home Away from Home in Peru

In Peru, you will live with a host family that will warmly welcome you into their home and treat you just like a member of the family. Host families are carefully chosen for your safety, comfort and to offer you a dynamic and culturally immersiveliving experience.Life with your host family will bea motivating and exciting experience.

While undertaking your Peru volunteer work the family will provide you with the best environment to adjust to your new life. They will guide you on how to live like a local, help you practice Spanish, celebrate local festivals with youand let youparticipate in their everyday activities. We believe their support will be a great opportunity for you to experience a different world, while making a difference in the livesof people in underprivileged communities in Peru.

The host family you live with during yourPeru volunteering program have several yearsof experience hosting international volunteers. Theyhave tons of good reviews from volunteers like you confirming that their stay with the familywas a unique experience enabling them tounderstand the culture and traditions of Peru.

For your comfortthe host families havemany cozy bedrooms furnished with single bedsandmodern facilities including electrical outlets and ceiling fans. Depending on availability, you may have a single room or share a room with volunteers of thesame gender. Couples get first priority for single rooms, andbathrooms are communal, clean and comfortable with western style toilets and running tap water.


Your Community in Peru

You will find all the necessary amenities includinggrocery stores, restaurants, medical clinics, hospitals and ATMs located near your host family’s home.In addition, thevolunteering programs in Peruyou can take part in are located about 15-20 minutes’ drive from your host family. You will be able to commute to and from the project in public transportation and visit local sites and check out the neighboring towns.

A Taste of Peru: Meals and Cuisine

While volunteering in Peru projectsyou will experience fresh and delicious local cuisine.Peru is typically known for its rich local herbs, vegetables and juicy meat that will be served to you by your host family. They willsharethree qualityhome cooked meals with you (breakfast, lunch and dinner) each day.

Breakfast includes tea/coffee, toast, eggs, fruits, etc. During lunch and dinner, you willbe provided delicious Peruvian staple foods such as Lomo Saltado, Arroz con Pollo, Churrasco de Res and more.

Our host family accommodates vegetarian and veganneeds, but other special dietary needs can sometimesbe hard to accommodate. Food and drinks outside of mealtimes will beyour own responsibility, andif you would like to eat out you can find a number of restaurants nearby. The restaurants will provide you with all kinds of cuisines suitable for all tastes and budgets.

Peruvian flavor sare generally somewhat spicy and are highly influenced by the Incas, including a wide variety of ingredients. Most of the ingredients are local herbs, spices, beans, meat, fish, vegetables and grains. Popular Peruvian dishes are Lomo Saltado, Arroz con Pollo, Churrasco de Res, Churrasco de Res, Milanesa con Arroz, and many more.

Lomo Saltado is a typical Peruvian food cooked with fried beef and potatoes while Arroz con Pollo is a simple universal rice and chicken. Cooked chicken with spicy sauce is called Aji de Gallina, while Churrasco de Res is dish where finely cut beefsteak is served with rice. Milanesa con Arroz is another popular food in Peru which is a kind ofbreaded chicken breast.
