Free Time
When participating in our volunteer programs in Bali, you will work at least 4 to 5 hours a day, depending on the project. Typically, work at the teaching project starts at 8 am and runs until 1 pm, Monday to Friday.
The exceptions to this are the projects involving sea turtle conservation, where you’ll be working between 2 pm and 6 pm instead.
Thus, regardless of your project you will have ample time to enjoy yourself and discover after the workday ends, and your weekends consisting of Saturdays and Sundays are completely free and left open for you to travel, explore and relax.
As you’ll be located on the beautiful tropical island of Bali, filled with beautiful sandy beaches, there are plenty of opportunities of surfing and relaxing everywhere. Your accommodation and project are just 15 minutes away from the famous Kuta beach so you can enjoy the beach at any time. Surfing in Kuta beach is a popular activity on the island, as well as exploring famous Balinese markets and shopping for souvenirs such as hand-made jewelry and art.
Those who enjoy scuba diving should not miss out on visiting the beach of Padang Bai, where there are seven different dive sites. A short trip by boat from the beach brings you out into the open sea and offers you the chance to see a wide range of fascinating marine life including plants and animals.

Weekend Exploration
Our volunteers in Bali projects have Saturdays and Sundays free for travel and exploration, allowing you to leave the project sites and visit sights and destinations further away. For some examples of how you can spend this time, we’ve collected a list of what we think are the most exciting places to visit during your weekends in Bali:
Sidemen
While much of Bali has been developed, Sidemen retains the natural beauty and wonder of the island. Decidedly off the beaten track, this is the perfect place to escape the tourist crowds and breathe in the fresh air. The village is located in a gorgeous valley filled with great hiking trails and picturesque waterfalls and surrounded by lush green rice paddies.
Tanah Lot Temple
Located on a dramatic rock formation in the sea is the other-worldly and serene Tanah Lot Temple. It is deservedly one of Bali’s most famous tourist attractions and provides deep insight into the culture and history of the Balinese people. Those working in our Bali volunteer work projects should not miss the chance to watch the sunset from the temple.
Amed
Amed is arguably one of the most beautiful places on the entire island, providing travelers with the opportunity to snorkel through its azure waters and coral filled bays observing amazing marine life in its natural habitat. The clear tropical waters are home to many species of colorful fish, giving you plenty to take in while snorkeling.
Ubud
Ubud is known as the epicenter for traditional Balinese crafts and dance. A visit here during your volunteering trip in Bali will allow you to learn a great deal about the culture and traditions of the island and its people, and you’re sure to get more cultural exposure than you ever expected. The village also houses several art galleries and craft workshops where you can purchase local arts and crafts.
