The best time for a safari in Tanzania is during the dry season, which typically runs from June to October. This period offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities as animals gather around water sources. The Great Migration in Serengeti, where millions of wildebeest and zebras move in search of fresh grazing, is a major highlight from June to July.

Tanzania is home to several iconic national parks. The Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, and Selous Game Reserve are among the most popular. Each park has its unique features, wildlife, and landscapes, providing diverse safari experiences.

The duration of a safari in Tanzania depends on personal preference, budget, and available time. Generally, a minimum of 4 to 5 days is recommended to explore at least one or two national parks. However, to fully experience Tanzania's wildlife and landscapes, a 7 to 10-day safari is ideal.

Tanzania is generally safe for tourists, including those on safari. However, it is important to follow the advice of your tour guide or operator, adhere to park rules, and take necessary precautions.

Tanzania is known for its incredible wildlife diversity. You can expect to see the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, and rhinoceros), as well as giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos, crocodiles, cheetahs, hyenas, and a wide variety of bird species. The Serengeti's Great Migration is a must-see spectacle.

Night game drives are generally not allowed in Tanzanian national parks. However, there are a few exceptions. Some private concessions adjacent to the national parks, such as those in the Selous Game Reserve and some areas of the Serengeti, may offer night game drives as part of their safari experiences. These areas operate under different rules and regulations compared to the national parks.

To ensure the safety of both visitors and wildlife, it is important to maintain a safe distance from the animals during a safari in Tanzania. Typically, a distance of at least 25 meters (82 feet) is advised, although some animals may approach the vehicles, allowing for closer encounters.

Open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles are commonly used for game drives in Tanzania's national parks and reserves. These vehicles provide excellent visibility, allowing passengers to observe wildlife comfortably. They are specially designed for off-road conditions and are equipped with pop-up roofs for better viewing and photography opportunities.

Yes, most foreigners visiting Tanzania require a visa. US, Canadian, British, and many European citizens can obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport. The visa fee is $100 for US passport holders and $50 for others, with US citizens eligible for a longer visa duration. However, it is important to verify with your embassy or consulate if you are eligible for a visa upon arrival or if you need to obtain one in advance.

Recommended vaccinations for Tanzania include yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and malaria prophylaxis.

It is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or travel clinic at least 4-6 weeks before your trip to allow time for necessary vaccinations and to ensure optimal protection.
