Classic Inca Trail 5 Days Itinerary

Our airport representative will pick you up at the airport and transfer to your hotel accommodation. You will receive a detail orientation about your trip, safety procedures, daily itineraries and more.

Our adventure begins early in the morning as we pick you up from your hotel at 5:00. We then drive to Ollantaytambo, where you can enjoy breakfast at tourist restaurants and find any necessary items for the upcoming days. Afterward, we continue driving towards Piscacucho, located at km 82 of the railway to Machu Picchu town. At the control point, we will organize our backpacks while our porters do the same. The sign-up process is the first step we take at Piscacucho, officially marking the start of our hike. The trail covers a distance of 9 km (6 miles) until we reach our camping site in Wayllabamba. Along the way, we will visit and admire some impressive Inca sites, with Patallacta being the highlight of the day, best seen from a specific viewpoint

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, we continue our journey, knowing that today will be a challenging day as the trail takes us uphill all the way to Llulluchapampa. However, we recharge our energy with a delicious lunch at this resting point. The hike continues on a steep but breathtaking path through the cloud forest, adorned with lush vegetation and various types of trees, including the ancient and native Q´euña tree. We take several breaks along the way before reaching the Warmiwañusqa pass, the highest point of our trip at 4215 meters (13,825 feet). The descent begins as we make our way to Pacaymayu, our campsite for the second day. In total, we cover a distance of 13 kilometers (8 miles) on the Inca Trail.

On this day of ascent, we reach another pass called Runkurakay, situated above 3960 meters (12,990 feet). This area offers a unique environment where we may encounter fascinating wildlife such as the Andean Condor, Gray Deer, and colorful birds. Throughout the day, we visit several Inca sites including Runkurakay, Sayacmarka, Conchamarka, Phuyupatamarca, and Wiñaywayna. Our final destination for the day is the Wiñaywayna campsite, a pleasant and cozy place to stay. This portion of the Inca Trail is the longest, covering a total distance of 18 kilometers (11 miles).

On this day, we rise early and embark on a 1-hour and 30-minute walk along a flat section to reach the Sun Gate. The breathtaking sunrise, occurring between 5:30 to 6:00 in the morning, offers an indescribable view of Machu Picchu from this vantage point. We often find ourselves lingering longer to soak in the beauty. Afterward, we spend around 2 and a half hours exploring the Citadel of Machu Picchu with our knowledgeable tour guide, visiting the important temples and learning about the site's rich history. From there, we have the option to either walk or take a bus to the town of Machu Picchu (Aguas Calientes). Ample time is given to enjoy lunch in Aguas Calientes while awaiting the train to Ollantaytambo, typically departing after 4:00 pm. The train journey takes around 2 hours, followed by a bus transport back to Cusco.
