It is an exciting experience flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. You will be stunned by the exotic views of the snow-capped mountains. As soon as you land, our support team will pick you up at the airport and escort to your luxurious hotel. The rest of the day is reserved for rest.

After an hour flight from Kathmandu, you arrive at Tumlingtar and begin your trek. You will hike north, towards Khadbari from Tumlingtar. You start by hiking for 45 minutes along a highland, after which the trail gradually climbs for around three hours to reach Khandbari camp.

From Khadbari, you continue climbing up along the trail to the Mani Bhyanjyang hamlet. From here, the trail takes you through grasslands and bamboo woods to reach the Bhotebas village.

You then climb up to Chilchela from Bhotesbas village. After reaching Chilchela, you make several descents and ascents until you reach the Fururu village, where you will spend the night.

Leaving Fururu village, you trek back to the ridge (1960m) and walk through rhododendron forests to a mani wall. After visiting the wall, You walk along the ridge to Mure village. From Mure village, the trail steeply descends, leading you to the Num village.

From the Num village, you continue descending steeply through corn fields to Lumbang. From Lumbang, the trail drops sharply to a suspension bridge stretching over the Arun River. You then climb along the rocky path to Sedua.

From Sedua, you make a relatively simple ascent to Gyang. From Gyang, you make a mild walk-through terraced fields to Rupsia. From here, you pass through several streams and meadows, until you reach the Sherpa village of Tasi Gaon, the last permanent village of the valley.

Leaving Tashi Gaon, you will make an ascent via a trail until you reach a small campsite. The path levels out here. You then climb to another Ridge called Chipla.

After Chipla, you pass two small creeks , while the trail leading to Kauma gets steeper and becomes a range of moss-covered rock stairways leading to Dhara Kharka. From here, you will climb a hill, then take a slight descent to reach Kauma.

Today, you make a steep walk f to the summit of the ridge. You can see a large mani wall decorated with prayer flags here.

Then, make a gentle ascent to Kike La Pass. From the pass you traverse many ascents and descents, passing through lakes and dense rhododendron forests, until you reach Mumbak, a forest camp on a grassy slope.

Leaving Mumbak, you climb around 500m and trek through fir forests but the altitude decreases. Walking along the deadly trail, you cross a 200m slide area, and then follow the river to Kharka.

You will reach Yangle Kharka after a short hike, then you climb to the north side of the Barun Khola to reach Nhe Kharka. There is a small gompa at the southern part of the valley that greets you with superb peak views in all directions.

You follow the north bank of the Barun River until you cross a small wooden bridge and follow the trail that climbs gently to Ripok Kharka. Next, the trail crosses a stone chest and then climbs down.

From here, you can observe the stunning views of the Peaks, including Pyramid Peak, Chamling Peak and more. After walking for about 8 hours, you finally reach Sherson, where you will spend the night.

From Sherson, you make a mild descent to a pass about 100m above Makalu Base Camp. Then, you climb down to a stream and cross over rocks to get to your base camp on the west bank of the river. The stunning views of the south face of Makalu can be observed from here.

Today is a rest day for acclimatization and exploration.

Today you repeat your steps down the Barun Valley and continue descending until you reach Nhe Kharka.

From Nhe Kharka, you continue descending through the forests, making your way to Mumbuk. From here, you get to see the beautiful sunset views of Makalu and Chamlang.

Today, you hike across the Shipton La and descend to Kauma.

Leaving Kauma, you make a sharp descent back to Tashi Gaon and spend the rest of the day relaxing at Tashi Gaon in order to recover from the high elevation.

From Tashi Gaon, you descend along the Kasuwa Khola Valley, making your way to Sedua. You then take a gentle descent to Mulgaon. The trail drops steeply to Ipsuwa Khola from Mulgaon.

After crossing the Ipsuwa River, you enter into the hot foot land of the Arun Valley. Passing the temporary villages used by Rai and Chettri farmers, you finally reach Balung.

From Balung, the path drops down to the Apsawa Khola. After crossing it, you climb sharply to Chhayang, a charming Rai village. You then trek up and down as the trails ascend and descends, until you reach Pukuwa.

Leaving Pukuwa, you follow the trail that descends to Tome through narrow tracks and lush forests. Below Tome, the Arun Valley gets wider and U shaped.

The trail then ascends a ridge on sharp rock steps. After reaching the top, you descend to a camp with panoramic views on the edge of the Sankhuwa Khola across the Bumling village.

From Bumling, the 21 Days Makalu Base Camp Trek trail crisscrosses the fields of Bumling, taking you to Inkhuwa Khola.
