CONSERVATION PROJECT

PROJECT SUMMARY

Deforestation is a major problem challenging the forest ecosystem of Tanzania . With the growing demand of energy in Tanzania , the rate of deforestation is likely to accelerate other ecological/environmental problems. The situation has necessitated the government to encourage its institutions, Community Based Organizations and individuals to salvage the ecosystems so that both, the available scarce land and water is conserved.

Skill/Qualification

There is no need of specific qualification for placement on the conservation project in Tanzania . However, a volunteer interested to work on this project should have a love for nature. Work on the conservation project is physically demanding

VOLUNTEERS' ROLE

As a volunteer, you will work with KIWAMA a community based group dedicated to conserving the forest. However, you will mostly work in a nursery which aims to produce indigenous tree species. As a volunteer in environmental project, you will prepare nursery beds, sow seeds, weed, trim, prune, and thin various indigenous tree species. The planted seedlings grown and nurtured by our volunteers are later distributed at no charge to villages in other parts of Tanzania . Depending on the season, additional tasks may include planting, collecting seeds, replanting, eliminating diseased trees, and inventorying fauna and flora

Room/Food

IFRE arranges room, food, and supervision for volunteer from the start to the end of program. During first week of language and cultural program, volunteers stay in our hostel in Dar es Salaam . Our office/hostel is located in Dar es Salaam giving access to volunteers to different parts of the city. Our manager and his wife are managing our hostel and office. They will run language program and manage local Tanzanian food 3 times a day for you.

During the volunteering period, volunteers stay with a host family. We arrange a separate room and shared bath for volunteers in the host family home. You can find the details of the room/food accommodations in the placement sheets. IFRE main office is in Dar es Salaam . However, the director of the local project will be our immediate contact for volunteers.
