Project Summary
Primary health care is one particular program significantly lacking resources and attention among the widely-spread, impoverished people of India . People die everyday because many villages do not have doctors or basic health care facilities such as clinics or hospitals. Volunteers with health care backgrounds can help fill this void by teaching health care tips in informal education centers, schools, or local organizations.
Skill/Qualifications
Volunteers interested in joining Volunteer Health Program in India must possess health care certification, such as an ID as a medical student, EMT or paramedic certification, or nursing or physician's credentials. Medical volunteers without credentials are not allowed to work in this program due to the associated, potential risks.
Volunteers responsibilities
Job responsibilities of volunteers joining medical volunteer in India vary with education, skills, experience, and qualifications. Volunteers are not allowed to perform obviously-identified or surgical operations Most of the time, volunteers help doctor or work as an assistant to doctors. Volunteers measure blood pressure (BP), temperature, height, weight, as well as assist doctors and the medical staffs in the health centers. Volunteers may also help in health camps (if any), distribute medication, provide tips to patients pertaining to health, nutrition and sanitation as well as council patients, and possibly participate in the treatment for minor injuries/wounds and/or maintain records of treated patients.
Room/Food
IFRE arranges room, food, and supervision for volunteer from the start to the end of program. During the first week's language and cultural program, volunteers stay in IFRE's hostel in Guna Gao ( Delhi ), where cooks prepare a variety of Indian food ( Nan , curry, Dal, chapatti, rice, pickle). For the duration of the volunteering project, volunteers stay with host family with accommodations which include separate rooms with a communal bathroom/toilet shared with respective host families and hostel. IFRE maintains a local staff, office, vehicle, as well as their own hostel in Gurgaon, Delhi NCR. Most of IFRE's partner orphanages are located within a 20-mile radius, enabling IFRE to meet volunteers as necessary. Volunteers will also have 24/7 access to IFRE's office and the mobile numbers of in-country coordinators. Also, IFRE's staff visits each volunteer in 1-2 week intervals as a part of program |
