Donation is needed for LW orphanage to expand existing facilities

Dear Friends

We knew it, but when we opened LW Children Centre in 2003, to help disadvantaged children and AIDS orphans, we didn't even dream that soon our home and our building will become too small for all of them. We also didn't know how big is the need in Tanzania for a place like our Center. Every day we receive several requests to accept abandoned and orphaned children, but our space is very limited.

Presently at the LW Children Centre we have 33 children, ages 2 to 15, living and studying full time within our tiny lot of 0.5 acres. In addition, every day we take in 25 kids from surrounding villages to attend classes and play. All these children share the only two outhouses. There is no personal space, no quiet corner for studying, and not enough shelves to put away personal belongings and books. Kids eat in the classrooms. All our girls sleep in one room, smaller ones even three per bed. Boys are divided in two rooms, smaller ones two per bed. Our kids can only shower outside, as we have no indoor plumbing.

Our children are growing but our space is not…

With your help the LW children Centre can provide

• More space for sleeping and playing
• More classroom capacity
• Privacy and separation for our teenage girls and boys
• Medical room for isolation in case of disease
• In-house bathroom with toilet and shower
• Bigger kitchen
• Dining room
• More space for hands-on projects, raising farm animals and planting vegetables
• Space for washing and drying clothes

We have found a piece of land near the biggest market in Arusha, five acres, at a very reasonable price of $50,000. We must raise funds so we can make our offer by the end of January 2007. Land in Arusha is in high demand and we may not have this opportunity again.
