Orphans in Tanzania URGENTLY Need Your Support and Help
Dear friends and family,
We are eager to share our incredible volunteer experience with all of you! This summer the Institute for Field Research Expeditions ( www.ifrevolunteers.org ) made it possible for us to volunteer internationally in the East African country of Tanzania. IFRE connected us with Tanzanian country coordinators to place us at the Good Hope School and Orphanage.
The Good Hope Orphanage and School is located in Ngusero, an area just outside of Arusha , Tanzania at the foot of Mount Meru . Good Hope was started in May 2006 by the Mohammed family, who owns the school and orphanage compound. Asha Mohammed, the director of Good Hope, has vowed to help the local Tanzanian children whose families are affected by HIV/AIDS, poor health care and limited access to educational services. Many children are unable to go to school and are not receiving proper nutrition. These children are not being nurtured in the way that every child deserves to be.
Currently, there are ten children residing at the orphanage and twenty others that join them and attend school daily. Good Hope provides a home and an education for girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 7 years old. The children come to Good Hope when their parents or guardians have passed away, or are no longer able to support the child. The school, which consists of two classrooms and hosts one teacher, Veronica, is a short walk from the orphanage.
The international volunteer program, Institute for Field Research Expeditions, is partnered with Good Hope to provide a wonderful volunteer experience for those who want to work with children, teach English, learn Swahili and educate the local community about HIV/AIDS. Volunteers from all over the world have worked at Good Hope to assist Asha Mohammed, Teacher Veronica, and Saum, their daily caretaker. As recent volunteers, we know the impact that small donations can make in the lives of these children. Every item is greatly appreciated; school supplies, books, clothing and shoes are in the highest demand. Also, as a relatively new orphanage and school, Good Hope has many plans to expand. They wish to build more classrooms, a playground/sports field, volunteer quarters, and a computer center. It is also possible to sponsor a child, which allows you to follow this child's progress in school, learn more about their history, and eventually communicate directly with the child.
Good Hope believes that every child deserves the chance to receive an education and access good health care. Donors like you can help make this a reality. You will help Good Hope to expand its reach in the community, and allow Good Hope to provide a loving home for many more children in Arusha, Tanzania. Please consider donating to The Good Hope Orphanage and School, and know that your donation can support the life of a child who wants nothing but an opportunity.
