Project Summary
Volunteering in this wildlife conservation/animal care project is an ideal opportunity for animal-loving volunteers who are either looking to pursue a career in the wildlife conservation or animal care or for those with skills and experience working within similar fields. In Ecuador , IFRE collaborates with local wildlife rescue centers which aim to rescue, rehabilitate, relocate and reintroduce confiscated and or illegally smuggled animals into their natural environments/habitats. Volunteers are urgently required to assist in a variety of duties relevant to the rescue of numerous wildlife species – feeding animals, cleaning/repairing/constructing cages (used for temporarily housing the animals), improve/maintain already-existing structures/facilities, improving/building natural environments. Volunteers in this project will have exceptional opportunities to experience and familiarize themselves with the marvelous wildlife contained with remarkable regions and landscapes of Ecuador .
Skills/Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required of volunteers wishing to join the wildlife conservation/animal care project in Ecuador . Some duties required of individuals volunteering in this project are labor intensive, requiring that volunteers be in relatively formidable physical shape/health. Spanish is preferred but not required. Volunteers are expected to be flexible and adaptive and should possess interest in animal welfare and rescue. No FREE Spanish classes in Galapagos Islands, animal/wildlife project or any conservation project.
Volunteers' Responsibilities
There are numerous areas needing the assistance and contributions of volunteers. Volunteers may feed animals, repair/assemble cages/temporary habitats, improve already-existing facilities, collect food, introduce native foods to animals, monitor animals' progress, consult with/work alongside biologists. Furthermore, there are a multitude of activities which volunteers can perform in assisting biologists and the wildlife centers' already-existing staff members attempting to train the animals with skills necessary for their survival in the wild.
Room/Food
IFRE manages living accommodations and meals within host families throughout Ecuador for the entire duration of the volunteer program. Host families are all carefully screened, well-educated and have experience with host international volunteers. IFRE arranges clean, simply-furnished, private (occasionally shared with fellow volunteers) rooms in nearby host families. Volunteers are suggested to bring a sleeping bag and their own bed sheets. Volunteers will receive three (3) local meals each day (occasionally, if volunteers are away from their host families during lunch, they may required to pack their own ‘to go' lunches). |
