Project Summary
Sencinai is the daycare provided by the Costa Rica government. Working parents who cannot afford care within the home or private daycare can leave their children from the ages of 2-5 in the public daycare system. There are hundreds of children currently in these projects which are managed by only a few caregivers. Volunteers can assist in all ways at the project by playing with the children, giving them individual attention, teaching English, crafts, and organizing creative activities.
Skills/Qualifications Needed
There are no specific qualifications needed to join the public daycare volunteer project in Atenas. However, volunteers are expected to be flexible and patient. You should have passion and love for children and the ability to demonstrate this in a positive manner. Basic Spanish is essential for these positions.
Volunteers Responsibilities
As a volunteer in the public daycare project in Atenas, you will be assisting the staff with the children, teaching English, playing games, and helping with projects. You may also do a little work around the daycare including cleaning or improvement projects if needed.
Room/Food
Room and board will be provided by a host family for the entire duration of the program. They will provide 3 meals a day of Costa Rican fare (lunch may be 'to go' if the volunteer experience requires that the volunteer has to be gone from the house throughout the day). Experience the culture of Costa Rica , the incredible traditional food, and expand your Spanish in the full immersion home stay setting. Supervision will be provided in Atenas for both the home stay and the volunteer project during the entire time of the program.
