Project Summary
The Comedor de Càritas is a local food bank organized by the Committee of Social Work from the local Catholic church. They serve meals to the poor and homeless in Atenas. Assist an organization that wants to make sure that everyone in the community gets at least one hot meal a day.
Skills/Qualifications Needed
Basic or elementary Spanish is required. Volunteers are expected to be reliable, flexible, and patient.
Volunteer Responsibilities
As a volunteer in the food bank of Atenas, you will be serving meals, setting up the lunches, cleaning up afterwards, or doing projects that need to be done as part of the daily workings, as well as volunteering on maintenance projects.
Room/Food
Room and board will be provided by a host family for the entire duration of the program. They will provide 3 meals a day of Costa Rican fare (lunch may be 'to go' if the volunteer experience requires that the volunteer has to be gone from the house throughout the day). Experience the culture of Costa Rica , the incredible traditional food, and expand your Spanish in the full immersion home stay setting. Supervision will be provided in Atenas for both the home stay and the volunteer project during the entire time of the program.
