Project Summary
Much of the population is still learning about HIV/AIDS in Brazil . Many impoverished Brazilians are not educated enough to understand the causes of HIV/AIDS and how it is transmitted. People who become infected are often excluded from their own family's home as well as from society. This HIV/AIDS volunteer in Brazil project is an excellent opportunity for those interested in fostering awareness of the disease and studying ways to change attitudes and behaviors towards those unfortunate enough to be infected.
Skills/Qualifications
No specific qualifications are required to join the volunteer HIV/AIDS project in Brazil . All volunteers are encouraged to be flexible, patient and adaptive. Basic Portuguese fluency is preferred and beneficial, but it is not required.
Volunteers' Responsibilities
Many local community organizations are working to disseminate stigmas regarding HIV/AIDS, to build community awareness, to promote education and to care for HIV-infected patients. These organizations aim to foster awareness of the disease and work to change attitudes and behaviors towards those unfortunate enough to be infected. Many of these organizations/clinics provide shelters and comfort for HIV/AIDS patients, as well as offer counseling for HIV-positive people and their families. These organizations also treat HIV-positive patients and run a variety of skills development programs.
Room/Food
IFRE manages living accommodations and meals with host families for the entire duration of the volunteer program. Our host families are all carefully screened, well educated and have experience with hosting international volunteers. Accommodations are clean, simply furnished rooms, which may be occasionally shared with other same-gender volunteers. Volunteers will receive three (3) local meals each day consisting of delicious local cuisine. Occasionally, if volunteers are away from their host families during lunch, they may be required to pack their own “to go” lunches. Our in-country staff offers supervision for the extent of the volunteer program.
The mission of IFRE Volunteers is to offer the most affordable as well as the highest quality volunteer and humanitarian abroad experiences - enabling us to make a contribution for all of humanity in its quest to make the world a better place. Through our volunteer and humanitarian trips abroad, we aim to spread love and compassion worldwide while improving the lives of destitute children and less-fortunate communities. We at IFRE also seek sustainable solutions in the fields of education, healthcare, conservation efforts and development issues through international volunteering.
