About IFRE's Brazil Volunteer Program (in General)
How long has IFRE been working in Brazil ? Whom do you work with? Where are you located? What are IFRE's programs?
IFRE has been running volunteer projects for a number of years all over Latin America . We work with a number of NGOs, governmental organizations, non-profits and communities. IFRE's volunteer projects in Brazil are located in Rio de Janeiro . The city of Rio de Janeiro is famous for a number of icons representative of Brazil – i.e. the statue of Christ the Redeemer hovering over the city, the spinning colors of the various samba schools (‘sambadoras'), numerous beaches, and more. With easy access to public transportation, volunteers have this world-class city at their fingertips. Currently, IFRE offers the following projects in Brazil : Orphanage Project, Disadvantaged Children/Children at Risk Project, English-Teaching Project, HIV/AIDS Project, Teaching Computer Skills Project, Recreational/Sports Project. ALSO: IFRE offers free Portuguese lessons to participants volunteering in Brazil (which is mandatory due to the language barrier existing between non-Portuguese speaking volunteers and the project's existing staff members).
