Both the environment and human rights are often compromised in developing countries around the world. Often ignored, the rights of the citizens are often back-seated in an effort to catch up with the rest of the developed world on an economic level. The same goes for the environment. If a forest must be razed and leveled for the sake of commerce and industrialization, such a forest would be annihilated within the blink-of-an-eye and without hesitation.

In collaboration with NGOs hoping to address these very important topics, volunteers are needed to assist to halting of the destruction of the Argentinean environment as well as its people's rights. Global thinkers and human rights activists are ideal for this project as well as self-starters sympathetic to the ploy of their fellow and less fortunate man.

Skills/Qualifications

Beginner to intermediate knowledge of Spanish is preferred. No specific qualifications are required to join the NGO: Human and Environmental Rights project in Argentina . However, interested individuals should have a passion and eagerness to help less fortunate and disabled children. IFRE offers free Spanish lessons to volunteers in Córdoba. NOTE: volunteers who have no previous Spanish-speaking experience are required to take advantage of the free Spanish lessons to ensure the highest level of interaction/contribution. Volunteers are expected to be flexible, adaptive, patient and proactive.

Volunteers' Responsibilities

Volunteers participating in this project should be interested in and passionate about human and environmental rights and the preservation of BOTH. Volunteers will assist in advising and educating communities regarding issues pertaining to the above-mentioned rights – conducting and participating in workshops or seminars aiming to disperse information to regional communities within and surrounding the city of C ó rdoba . Volunteers' duties include (but are not limited to): relevant field research, skills-training, attending/organizing conferences, archiving of related materials/findings, publishing various materials, and more.

Room/Food

IFRE manages living accommodations within a regional guesthouse located in a charming neighborhood within the city of C ó rdoba . The city of C ó rdoba boasts a number of exciting opportunities for volunteers wanting to see a city with a bright future which still maintains reverberations of its colonial and culture-rich past. C ó rdoba's plentiful cultural has produced a number of influential writers, its own musical styles (known as ‘the cuarteto' in addition to tastes of classical, jazz, rock, pop and electronic), abundant monuments, lively festivals, enthralling theaters and a pulsing nightlife. Volunteers reside in accommodations which are located just minutes from the downtown area. This unique living situation is often quite conducive to fellow volunteers becoming acquainted with each other. Furthermore, Spanish AND Tango lessons are provided for participants in these living accommodations which also conveniently double as our local operator's headquarters – ensuring constant contact with in-country coordinators.
