Major FAQ-Argentina
About IFRE's Argentina Volunteer Program (in General)
Important Information
- Argentina is a developing country where 36 % (13.2 million) people, including 4.5 million children under 14 years old (45% of the total) who cannot meet their basic needs (food, housing, health and education). Of this 4.5 million children, 1.3 cannot even meet their food needs.
- However, Argentina has a bigger middle class/educated population than most of South and Central American ( let aside some African and Asian) countries. In addition, Argentines have very little aboriginal (original natives) features (we look like Europeans), unlike in most south and central America.
- Due to safety reasons, IFRE volunteers do not access to the places (and social projects) where the poorest people live.
- For these reasons, except for its infrastructure (which is not so bad in major cities and tourism places) our country appears like a European developed country for foreign visitors and thus sometimes volunteers mistakingly think that there is no need for them in the projects.

IFRE has been running volunteer projects for a number of years all over Latin America . We work with a number of NGOs, governmental organizations, non-profits and communities. IFRE's volunteer projects in Argentina are located in C ó rdoba. The city of C ó rdoba boasts a number of exciting opportunities for volunteers wanting to see a city with a bright future which still maintains reverberations of its colonial and culture-rich past. C ó rdoba's plentiful cultural has produced a number of influential writers, its own musical styles (known as ‘the cuarteto' in addition to tastes of classical, jazz, rock, pop and electronic), abundant monuments, lively festivals, enthralling theaters and a pulsing nightlife. Volunteers reside in accommodations which are located just minutes from the downtown area. This unique living situation is often quite conducive to fellow volunteers becoming acquainted with each other. Furthermore, Tango lessons are provided for participants in these living accommodations which also conveniently double as our local operator's headquarters – ensuring constant contact with in-country coordinators.
